Xiaomi Prepares a Touch Screen Rear-View Mirror for Your Car

Office — road — home — the main route of our lives. We finally got down to making our home more comfortable and safe using Xiaomi smart technologies, while on the road (read, in transport) we are still struggling with safety issues. Xiaomi found one more way to help us with that (the first one was MiJia Car Air Purifier). It is currently raising funds for a new project called 70m Smart Rearview Mirror that will have capabilities a simple rear-view mirror just cannot deliver, like DVR-recorder, GPS-navigator and a smart assistant, clever enough not to comment the way you drive, but to monitor the road and alert of any ambiguous situation.

The 70mm Smart Mirror can function as your ordinary glass rearview mirror and a touch monitor, boasting of a whopping 8,88-inch HD display with a high resolution of 1920×480. It spans the entire surface of the mirror and supports 16.7 million colors. It also sports several levels of brightness that adjusts automatically to the ambient lighting.

The mirror can also function as a DVR-recorder. Its camera has a 1/2.9-inch OmniVision sensor with f/1.8 aperture and 160-degree wide lens to capture a wide viewing zone. The video is recorded in 1080p at 30fps and you can watch it right on the screen. There is also microSD support and a possibility to store files in the Mi Cloud.

This touch screen rear-view mirror supports Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS) that can boost your confidence during the road trip as it displays if you are overtaking the neighboring lane or if you are driving at a safe distance from the other vehicles or objects.

90% of all the functions you have in your smartphone are mirrored in here. You can play tracks, call and record calls, find out what the weather is going to be like or make a route. The mirror can be controlled with a help of voice commands thus ensuring your eyes will stay focused on the road and both of your hands will stay on the stirring wheel.

The device works in tandem with your smartphone and syncs with it by means of Bluetooth 4.0.
