The main difference between the new camera by Xiaomi and the previous generation of Yi Sports Camera is the opportunity to fully use it as a car DVR. Use of the first Xiaomi Yi Sports Camera as a DVR was an inconvenient solution, the main problem was the viewing angle, which was only 155°.
ADAS Function for Drivers
The new Xiaomi Yi DVR has a wide-angle lens with a viewing angle of 168° and an aperture of f/1.8 as well as the ADAS feature (Advanced driver assistance system), which keeps track of the distance to the vehicle ahead and notifies about dangerous approach. The ADAS system also monitors the markings on the road and according to the deviation data may determine that the driver is falling asleep at the wheel.
Design and Capabilities
By design the new camera resembles the Yi Sports Camera: even the body began to look more severe, but it is still made of plastic. On the front side it has a lens that is able to record video in 2196p (2304 x 1296p 30fps), and on the back side there is a small 2.7-inch display with an aspect ratio of 16 : 9.
Xiaomi claims that the Yi Camera has a new lens which is designed specifically for video shooting in the dark. All data from Xiaomi camera can be transferred to the smartphone via built-in Wi-Fi.
